About AVR Nottingham

AVR Nottingham is a small health and wellbeing blog for people who would like straightforward answers to ordinary questions. Why am I awake at two in the morning? What should be on my plate this week? Is this headache worth worrying about? We write the kind of piece we would want to read ourselves: calm, clear, honest about what is uncertain, and short on drama.

We are a handful of writers working under pen names. None of us is a doctor, nurse, dentist or pharmacist, and we never pretend otherwise. What we offer is careful reading, plain language and a habit of pointing you towards a professional whenever a question goes beyond general information.

What we cover

  • Sleep - how sleep works and what helps when it will not come, starting with our guide on how to fall asleep faster.
  • Nutrition - everyday food and drink, minerals, hydration and the supplements people ask about most.
  • Oral health - grinding, breath, restorations and the people who work in dental care.
  • Everyday aches and body measures - headaches, tension and numbers such as BMI explained without fuss.
  • Smoking and nicotine - what changes when people stop or switch, written for adults.
  • Men's wellbeing - including the emotional side that often gets skipped.

A fuller list lives on our subjects we follow page.

How we write

Every article starts with a real question and tries to answer it in the order a reader would ask it. We avoid invented numbers, miracle language and anything that sounds like a diagnosis. Where advice differs between people, we say so. Where a symptom could matter, we say when to see a doctor, dentist or pharmacist, and we put that note where you will actually read it rather than burying it at the bottom.

We read widely before writing, leaning on public health services, professional bodies and plain-language patient material. Our page on where our information comes from explains that process in more detail.

What we are not

We are not a clinic, a shop or a helpline. We do not offer personal medical advice or sell supplements or devices. Some posts mention a particular service or brand, and that mention is no promise that it is right for you or safe alongside what you already take. You can read more about the limits of what we publish in our health information notice.

Keeping things current

Health guidance changes, and so do the habits and products people ask about. We revisit older pieces, tidy up wording that has aged badly and correct mistakes openly. If you spot something that looks wrong, our corrections page explains what happens next.

Say hello

We read every message, whether it is a suggestion for a topic, a question about a post or a note that something is unclear. The quickest way to reach us is through the contact page.

Why we keep the volume down

There is no shortage of loud health content. We would rather be the quiet page you return to when you want an answer that does not shout, scare or sell.

That means fewer promises and more plain sentences. If we are unsure, we say so; if a symptom needs a professional, we say that too, near the top where it will be read.

House rules

Four lines we hold ourselves to

These sit on a note above every draft, and each article has to pass them before it goes live.

  • Explain the ordinary thing well before reaching for the unusual one.

  • Say plainly when an answer depends on the person reading it.

  • Point towards a doctor or dentist early, not as an afterthought.

  • Leave out every number we cannot stand behind.

Something to add?

We read every message.
